Before beginning development on the Air Wing, I had already been involved with the air-conditioning industry.
We spent the majority of our time, adjusting or servicing units in order to better serve the comfort of our customers. This was especially true for our business clients.
On one of those days, I had the opportunity to speak with one of our office-based customers.
He asked if there was some way to direct the flow of air from the air-conditioning unit.
Although I hadn’t given it much thought before, it suddenly became apparent that if we could somehow better channel the flow of air through an office, we could increase the comfort of our customers.
At that time, as no such product was available, in order to meet our customer’s request, we set about making one by hand. It was the first step in developing the Air Wing.
At first, we communicated our desire to manufacture our new product to a number of major air-conditioning companies; however, we didn’t meet with much success. Not to be dissuaded, we set about making a prototype and, with the assistance of an experienced patent lawyer, our idea quickly became a reality.
We bought and tried out many different types of materials. Many sleepless nights were spent agonising over the details. How could we maximize the comfort of the airflow? What kind of shapes were the most effective? Day by day, through trial and error we continued to test our designs.
If the material was too soft, too hard or even too large it didn’t direct the airflow effectively. As it had to be installed overhead, if it was too heavy it would also become a safety hazard.
After a number of trials, we completed a prototype using Styrofoam as the base material.
As soon as we attached the prototype to an air-conditioning unit we noticed that the air-flow had been dramatically improved. It also got a superb response from our client!
We were convinced.
We had to get our product out on the market!
With an aim to have it mass-manufactured, we began taking our prototype door-to-door to as many manufacturers as we could.
After having been rejected numerous times, we finally found a company who was prepared to give us the backing we had been looking for.
From there production began. Proudly sporting the finalised product, I started selling the Air Wing directly, by hand in Okinawa. This was also a valuable opportunity for market research.
Committed to the potential of the Air Wing, we initially set the price high. At ¥5,500 it wasn’t cheap; however, we believed that if we could successfully gain support in Okinawa – a place with a low average income and low-priced commodities – we could market the Air Wing nationwide.
Little by little we began to gather a large customer base. We rented an office and immersed ourselves in further research and development. As our popularity began to grow, we started extending our sales operations. First Nagoya, then Shinjuku and from there the entirety of the Tokyo metropolitan area.
From just a few words voiced by a single customer development
of the Air Wing began.
Initially, the ‘Air Wing’ concept had faced a great deal of opposition and very little support from within the air-conditioning industry. Its development met resistance at every turn. However, determined to make my mark on the world, I used the criticisms I received to drive my resolution and to meet the challenge head on.
Now, thanks to the recognition and continued support of our customers, we’ve managed to grow our Air Wing concept into a blockbuster product.
By facing our challenges and overcoming our failures, we have developed a product that is unmarred by compromise, one that continues to satisfy our many customers. This is something we feel we can brag about.
Every part of the Air Wing has been carefully designed with your comfort in mind.
From strengthening each, individual part, to increasing the product’s overall effectiveness and ease of use, we are continuously researching new ways to improve the Air Wing’s design.
The Air Wing’s unique structure and design protects against common problems, such as the build-up of unpleasant condensation, or other issues that may easily occur.
As patented features, they are exclusive to Daian Service, Inc. products.
To allow our customers to use all our products with confidence, we have developed an original ‘security kit’ to ensure the unit won’t fall or build-up condensation.
When it was first released, the Air Wing was a truly original concept and design. Even so, it didn’t receive a very warm welcome from the air-con manufactures of the time.
Rather, it seemed that they saw it as a product that interfered with the features of an air-conditioning unit.
We were convinced; however, of the Air Wing’s power to support and enhance the comfort that air-conditioning brings its users.
Towards that end, without giving up, we continued to approach companies and pressed for negotiations. Now, even the biggest air-con manufactures are using our product.
We’ve also received glowing accolades from our customers. Being hit directly by air from an air-con unit can be very uncomfortable. As we’ve been told many times by clients provided with Air Wings, “you need more than just the unit, to completely alleviate discomfort.You also need the right parts!”
The Air Wing is the only wind breaker trusted by the major air-conditioning companies to meet the individual needs of their customers.
Currently, our products are used by over 1,000 companies throughout Japan.
We are also going global. From East Asia to the Middle East, we have received many orders from both Japanese and local companies. For this and more, we are very happy and extend our thanks to everyone involved!
